Versions and restore

Studio automatically takes a snapshot of your project after every Build turn that changes files. The Versions tab shows all available snapshots so you can review or restore any earlier state of your project.

How versions are created

A new version is saved whenever a Build turn completes and at least one file was changed. Chat and Plan turns do not create versions because they do not modify files.

When a turn touches three or more files simultaneously, Studio also saves a pre-operation checkpoint before applying those changes. This gives you a restore point at the exact state before the batch started, in addition to the post-build snapshot.

Version limit

Each project keeps the 10 most recent versions. When a new version is saved and the project already has 10, the oldest one is removed. Both regular build snapshots and pre-operation checkpoints count toward this limit.

Restoring a version

Open the Versions tab in the right panel. Find the version you want and click Restore. Studio replaces the current project files with the files from that snapshot and rebuilds the app.

Note
Restoring a version costs no credits. It is undoable: the state you are leaving behind is itself saved as a new version, so you can restore forward again if you change your mind.

What is stored in a version

Each version stores the complete set of project source files at that point in time. File content is stored in a content-addressed format, so identical files across versions are stored only once. A restore brings back the exact file tree that existed when the snapshot was taken.
