How credits work

Credits are the currency you spend to build and edit apps in Studio. Here is everything you need to know.

Where your credits come from

  • Signup bonus: Every new account receives 1,000 credits once, when you verify your email. No credit card required.
  • Monthly grant: 500 credits are added to your account automatically every 30 days. This happens whether or not you build that day.
  • Daily bonus: Studio adds 50 credits on days when you are actively building. You can earn up to 500 extra credits this way per UTC calendar month. Days you do not build are skipped. Unused daily bonus credits expire at the end of each UTC month and do not carry forward.

If you build every day of the month, you can receive up to 1,000 free credits in a typical month (500 monthly + up to 500 daily).

What each action costs

  • First build (new project): about 300 to 600 credits on average, depending on the size and complexity of your app.
  • Follow-up edit: about 120 to 140 credits.
  • Text-only answer (no code change): 0 credits.

Why does a small change cost so many credits?

Studio sends your entire project on every turn so it has the full picture of your app. The credit cost reflects how much context is processed, not the size of the change. A two-line fix and a large restructure cost about the same because the same amount of project context is in play.

When credits are charged

Your balance is checked before each build turn starts. If you have no credits, the turn will not start. Credits are only charged when a turn completes successfully. If you stop a build or the build is interrupted before it finishes, no credits are consumed for that turn.

What happens when you run out of credits

When your balance reaches zero, Studio will show a message and the build will not start. You can wait for your next monthly grant (every 30 days) or your next daily bonus (if you are active on that UTC day). Paid credit top-ups are also available from your account settings.
